Notice to Sts'ailes Community RE: COVID-19

WHAT IS CORONAVIRUS?

COVID-19 is a respiratory illness that has been identified as an outbreak globally.  It is a global health emergency.  There is no vaccine for this illness.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS?

Common symptoms include:

  1. Dry cough

  2. Fever

  3. Shortness of breath

WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE THESE SYMPTOMS?

  • Call the Yeqwethet department BEFORE coming into the Health Center.  We will give you further instruction; OR

  • Call 811 and a nurse will provide further instruction.

  • DO NOT go to Emergency unless you have been instructed to do so by a Healthcare professional (811 or Yeqwethet nursing)

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS:

  • Stay home

  • Wash hands often

  • Cough/sneeze into your sleeve or tissue

  • Keep a distance of 6 feet from other people in public places

  • Do not touch your face after touching public hard surfaces

WHO IS AT RISK?

Increased risk involves Elders, anyone with a compromised immune system, and anyone with underlying medical conditions.  Although anyone can contract the illness, the average healthy person would normally fully recover.

WHAT IS THE BAND DOING?

Sts’ailes Chief and Council and CAO are keeping up with current developments.  An emergency Council meeting took place on March 12.  Sts’ailes Yeqwethet is doing its utmost to stay on top of this rapidly evolving situation.  Information is constantly coming in from First Nations Health Authority, World Health Organization, and Fraser Health Authority.  This includes the following measures:

  • Yeqwethet team has updated the Communicable Disease Plan.  We are in Level 1 meaning we are closely monitoring the situation and preparing.  

  • Council and CAO directed all staff to NOT attend large meetings and community events have been cancelled/postponed.

  • Yeqwethet Aylexw has closed all programming until further notice.  (Spring Break program is cancelled.)

  • Information is being shared in the community via FaceBook, Door to Door notice, Bullletin Board notice, Stsailes.com website, etc.

  • CPW and SDC have increased janitorial services in all community buildings to ensure adequate disinfection.

  • PLEASE NOTE:  distribution of masks, hand sanitizer and other supplies to the community is NOT possible or necessary.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

  1. Stay home and/or avoid public places

  2. Wash hands often

  3. Cough/sneeze into your sleeve or tissue

  4. Keep a distance of 6 feet from other people in public places

  5. Do not touch your face after touching public hard surfaces

  6. Travel outside Canada is NOT advised

  7. Keep informed.  Valid information is available (see attached information)

  8. DO NOT listen to rumors

  9. Check the Sts’ailes Yeqwethet & Snowoyelh Services FaceBook page for updates to be posted by 4pm daily.
