Career Planning & Education Research

You will receive by the PSE coordinator assistance in determining career goals and developing an action plan. You will obtain assistance in researching post secondary education programs and institutions according to your career goals.

Education Advising

You will receive assistance with course planning, referrals to institutions and moral support while attending your program. 

Student Eligibility for PSE Sponsorship

Sts’ailes Post Secondary Services is designed to encourage and support Sts’ailes registered people to acquire qualifications so that they may become economically self-sufficient and realize their individual potential.

To be eligible to receive funding aid under the terms of the Sts’ailes Post Secondary Policy, it is necessary that all Sts’ailes band members applying meet and understand the following requirements.

  1. The applicant is a registered member of the Sts’ailes First Nation for a minimum of three years.

  2. The student/applicant has lived in Canada 12 months prior to the application and continues to reside in Canada and attends a public post secondary institution in Canada.

  3. Sts’ailes Band members, who are non-residents of Canada, will not be funded for programs taken outside of Canada.

  4. Priority will be given to applicants in the following order:

    a. Current Band members enrolled in post-secondary institution and receiving sponsorship from PSE Department.
    b. Band members graduating from Grade 12 and entering a post secondary institution and enrolling in a full-time degree or diploma program.
    c. Students who have graduated from grade 12 in previous years and have not applied for/or received funding.
    d. Band members with grade 12 equivalents who have not previously received funding from PSE Department.
    e. Band members re-applying for additional funding to continue a degree and who have funding years available to them.
    f. Band members registered with Sts’ailes EAS who are completing a vocational training program at an accredited institution.
    g. Band members who are applying for post graduate funding.

  5. The institution you are applying to must be an accredited University/College.

  6. The program you are applying to must be an accredited program.

Funding Limits for Sponsorship

2 year Diploma = 1 year UCEP + 2 year program = 3 years or 6 semester/terms
4 year Degree = 1 year UCEP + 4 year program = 5 years or 10 semesters/terms
5 year Degree = 1 year UCEP + 5 year program = 6 years or 12 semesters/terms

Graduate Studies = Master or Doctorate level – funding only available on a term by term basis or course basis depending on PSE funding availability **If you are provided Graduate Studies funding you will be required to a signed contract that the amount of years received for funding you will be required to provide work services to Sts’ailes for the equivalent funding years.

1 year = Fall (September-December) and Winter/Spring (January-April) Semester
Summer Semester = June- August – Approved only for program requirements/funding availability = 0.5 years of funding
UCEP = Upgrading or prerequisite requirements for diploma/degree program registration

Funding Assistance 

  1. Complete the Sts’ailes Post Secondary Education Assistance Application Form and Letter of Intent.

  2. Meet with and discuss further details with the Post Secondary Coordinator in person or over zoom.

  3. You may be placed on the waitlist until funding is available.

  4. Application deadlines (yearly):

a.     New Applicants : April 1st
b.     Returning Students: August 1st = Fall semester
December 1st = Winter/Spring semester
March 31st = Summer semester (available for program requirements/funding availability)
