Why care about waste reduction and solid waste management?

As part of the Sts’ailes Land Code, we exercise our inherent right to govern the part of our Xa’xa Temexw, which are designated as Sts’ailes reserve land. Reducing waste and having an efficient and effective solid waste management system are part of land, resource, and environmental stewardship priorities.

Recent activities include:

  • Setting a goal of becoming a zero-waste community

  • Continuing to work towards implementing our own cost-effective waste services program. Find out more >>

  • Implementing illegal dumping signage and education; creating enforcement laws (Illegal Dumping page link)

  • Developing a comprehensive Zero Waste Management Plan to include organics management (food scraps) and interactive behaviour change programs
